CONCENTRIC SEMI-MASSIVE CONDUCTORS AudioQuest’s flat series speaker cable features a concentric semi-massive conductor configuration. While it may not be as transparent as AudioQuest’s massive conductors, the semi-massive conductor offers significantly higher resolution compared to a typical twisted bundle conductor.
Long-Grain Copper (LGC): Long-Grain Copper (LGC) has fewer grain junctions than standard Oxygen-Free High-Conductivity (OFHC) copper. This reduction in internal junctions results in exceptional sound clarity and increased fidelity.
CONCENTRIC MASSIVE + CONCENTRIC CONDUCTORS To effectively eliminate two common sources of distortion – imperfect strand contact and magnetic interference between strands – massive conductors are often preferred. However, in the case of Q2, a conductor with such a large cross-section would be both very rigid and susceptible to skin effect, resulting in unnatural sound, similar to an acoustic roller coaster. The Q2’s concentric massive + concentric conductors address this dilemma by using a perfect circle of 11 LGC copper strands with smaller cross-section wrapped around a single strand of larger cross-section LGC. The result is a flexible conductor that offers sound quality close to the ideal of a massive conductor.
LOW-INDUCTANCE TWISTED-PAIR GEOMETRY Unlike a standard speaker cable with parallel conductors that have relatively high inductance, stretching energy over time and producing dull and blurred sound, the Q2 cable employs a low-inductance twisted-pair geometry. This design offers greater clarity and an extended frequency range, covering both low and high frequencies.
